This friendly Mom & Pop accommodation facility in Alpena is opposite the picturesque Thunder Bay and a five-minute drive from the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. For less than 60 bucks a night, you can book a basic room with a full kitchen (or kitchenette), plus you get to use an outdoor pool. Bedrooms are clean and cozy, with 1950’s-style pink bathroom tiles. There is also enough parking space. If you want to enjoy your time in Michigan’s Thumb region, this is the place to stay! Located right next to Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse and Lighthouse Park, Lightkeepers Vintage Cottages is just 15 minutes from Port Austin. Off the main road, Huron Inn is a low-rise motel in St. Ignace overlooking Lake Huron. It is a seven-minute walk from the Museum of Ojibwa Culture, a mile from Interstate 75, and two miles from Straits State Park. Huron Inn is a pet-friendly establishment, with free private parking and WiFi for its guests. Despite its simple rooms, guests could enjoy the hotel’s well-tended garden and the amazing views of the lake. Free shuttle service could also be availed at the property.
For those planning to visit Tawas Point State Park and its famous lighthouse, you can never go wrong with Always A Holiday! This Victorian-style B&B is renowned for its homey service. Lake Street Manor was built by a lumber baron during the turn of the century and was a summer home of the Culhane family before it became a B&B in 1986. Located in Austin, this grindstone and brick inn almost feels like a home away from home. It has two pavilions, and a front and back porch where guests can lounge and relax. Children can play lawn games outside, while adults can loan bikes from the inn. Guests staying for two nights and more are entitled to use its kitchen and hot tub room. Lake Street Manor is a six-minute walk from Bird Creek Park and three miles from Lake Huron’s Port Austin Lighthouse. Take advantage of its off-season rates from October to May.
